Savvy: the part of you that wants to understand

Ability|Understanding

01 · StoryHer story

When you’re young, you learn from teachers, parents, and the people you look up to. You believe every question has a right answer, and that they have it.
Then one day, you notice the experts don’t agree. The answer you were given doesn’t hold up. Confusion sets in, and with it, a new question: what’s actually true here? That’s when Savvy wakes up. For many of us, it happens in our school years, and again every time something we were sure of turns out not to be.
Slowly, you realize most things have more than one side, and no one sees the whole picture alone.

02 · At easeWhen she’s at ease

“I want to know what’s really going on here.”

You’re curious about how things really are: the world, people, yourself. You don’t need to control any of it. You just want to understand it. Like a detective, you look for what’s going on beneath the surface.
You know people see through different lenses, shaped by where they grew up, who raised them, what they’ve lived through. So you don’t hold on to one answer too tightly. You like hearing other views, and piecing together your own understanding from all of them.
The cost: you can understand something very well and still be standing a little outside of it. Knowing why you feel something isn’t quite the same as letting yourself feel it.

03 · BracedWhen she’s braced

“I need to know more before I decide.”

She braces to protect you.

When understanding becomes something you can’t put down, Savvy shifts from wanting to know to needing to know everything before you move.
In this state, you research, compare, and observe before you let yourself act. Even small decisions feel like they need more information. Watching from the side feels safer than stepping in before you’re sure.
What she’s protecting: as long as you understand it fully first, you can’t get it wrong.
The cost: some things can only be understood from the inside. By the time you feel sure enough, the moment may have already passed.

04 · AsleepWhen she’s asleep

You rarely stop to ask what’s really going on underneath.
When someone explains something, you tend to take it as it’s presented. You don’t spend much time digging for other angles or hidden reasons.
It keeps things simple. You don’t overthink, and people find it easy to be around you, because you take them as they are.
But some things look different once you ask what’s underneath.

05 · Shows upWhen she shows up

When you hear two people tell the same story and notice how different they sound.
When something you were sure of turns out not to be true, and you want to know why.
When you’d rather understand a situation than win the argument about it.

06 · Other halfHer other half|Giggly

Near the end of the journey, Savvy and Giggly work on the same question: what does it mean to be free? One answers by understanding life, the other by not needing to understand it to enjoy it. They often come one after the other: once you’ve understood enough, you can finally loosen your grip. If both are awake in you, the hard part is knowing whether this moment needs figuring out, or simply living.

All twelve live in you. Some awake, some asleep.
Curious who’s awake lately?
