Magician: the part of you that sees it another way
AbilityTurning around
01 · StoryHer story
Magician wakes up when something is stuck, or starting to break, and holding it together isn’t enough anymore. It often comes after Steady has done everything she can, and the situation still won’t move.
Sometimes it’s a crisis. Sometimes it’s something quieter: you look at the same situation from a different angle, and suddenly it isn’t the same situation anymore.
Many of us ignore that inner voice for a long time. It can feel too big, too strange to trust. But when you finally follow it, things start to turn, and not only for you. The people around you often feel the shift too.
02 · At easeWhen she’s at ease
“Let’s look at this from another angle.”
You can look at a hard situation from more than one side. When something goes wrong, you let yourself feel it first. Then you look for a way of seeing it that’s honest, but doesn’t make you smaller.
When you make a mistake, you don’t beat yourself up, and you don’t pretend it didn’t happen. You tell yourself a truer story: this happened, and I’m learning from it. Over time, you get good at spotting the turning point in a situation, and helping it turn.
You trust your instincts, and you act on them. The way you name things often changes how the people around you see them too.
The cost: you often see the turning point before anyone else does. So for a while, you may have to walk that part alone, before others can see what you see.
03 · BracedWhen she’s braced
“It can’t stay like this. There has to be a way.”
She braces to protect you.
When transforming becomes something you can’t put down, Magician shifts from turning things around to not letting anything stay broken.
In this state, you see what could be better everywhere, even in things that are fine, even in things that can’t be changed. When something goes wrong, you’re already looking for the lesson and the next move. Fixing first and feeling later can work.
What she’s protecting: as long as there’s still a way to turn it, it isn’t really broken.
The cost: some things can’t be turned, only lived through. A loss, an ending, a hard season. When you keep trying to turn them, you never quite let them be what they are.
04 · AsleepWhen she’s asleep
You rarely feel the need to turn things around.
When something isn’t working, your instinct is to accept it as it is. It is what it is. You don’t spend much time looking for another way to see it.
It keeps you grounded. You see things as they are, and you don’t make them more complicated than they need to be.
But some things only turn once someone looks at them a different way.
05 · Shows upWhen she shows up
When something feels stuck, and a different way of seeing it suddenly clicks.
When a friend says “I’m such an idiot,” and you find a kinder, truer way to put it.
When you look back at something hard and realize it changed the direction of your life.
06 · Other halfHer other half|Steady
Further along the journey, Magician and Steady work on the same question: what do I do with the power I have? They often show up together: one turns things when they start to get stuck, the other keeps them standing. If both are awake in you, the hard part is knowing whether this moment needs letting it change, or holding on.
All twelve live in you. Some awake, some asleep.
Curious who’s awake lately?
